Cobra painting paste is a colorless medium that can be mixed in any ratio with water-mixable oil paint. The paste is as thick as the paint and can therefore be described as a water-mixable oil paint without pigment.

Cobra painting paste has various applications:

Increasing the amount of paint:
Painting paste can be mixed with water-mixable oil paint in any ratio. This allows you to create more paint from more expensive colors for impasto techniques (applying pure paint in thick strokes with a painting knife) without any color shift. The more paste you add, the more transparent the paint becomes; however, depending on the type of pigment, this may be barely visible in thicker layers.

Lowering the color strength:
The tinting strength of the paint will decrease as you add more painting paste. This can be especially important when using the alla prima (wet-on-wet) technique, mixing colors with very different tinting strengths together in the painting. Adding more painting paste to a stronger color will make it less dominant.
