Painting restoration
Is your painting in poor condition? There are several ways to restore your canvas so it can last for decades! Below is a brief summary of what we can do for you.
Cleaning and removing varnish
In the past, smoking was common in rooms where paintings, among other things, hung. This caused the varnish to yellow, which generally reduced the viewing pleasure!
We can clean canvases in various strengths. We usually start with a gentle mix in the corners of the canvas to see if this loosens the varnish. If this doesn't produce the desired result, we can apply a medium-strength mixture. Once all the dirt and varnish have been removed, we can re-varnish the canvas.
Gluing and re-stretching the canvas
If the canvas is too delicate to clean, it might be wise to first remove it from the existing wooden frame and then glue it onto sturdy new canvas. This process will tighten any dents and imperfections. After gluing the canvas, we re-stretch it onto a new wooden frame. We apply a light stain to this frame to give it a beautiful, vintage look.
Restoration
Once the varnish is removed, the canvas can be repainted, filling in any cracks (crackles in the paint). You won't recognize your canvas! After repainting, a new varnish is applied, and it can hang on the wall for years to come!
